In the US, Thanksgiving is a national holiday that is observed on the 4th Thursday of November every year.  Families usually gather for large dinners or feasts that typically consist of foods such as whole oven-roasted turkeys, gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, and more.  The origin of this holiday is widely thought to have been a harvest festival celebrated between Pilgrims and Native Americans in Plymouth in 1621.
