誰かに遅刻を知らせるのに「for」を使用するのは正しくありません。 この場合、「I will be [AMOUNT OF TIME] late」/（私は+ [時間の長さ]遅れます）と表現します。

「For」は、あなたの経験した事のある時間を表す際には正しい表現です。

たとえば、私はロサンゼルスに3年間住んでいました。」は英語で言うと「I lived in Los Angeles for three years.」

「I will be late for + [AMOUNT OF TIME]」というフレーズもありますが、前者と意味はまったく異なります。 

たとえば、「I will be (coming home) late for the next three days because of training」は日本語で言うと「研修のため、次の3日間は遅く帰宅します」という意味になります。

It is not correct to use “for” to tell someone how late you will be.  You simply say, “I will be + [AMOUNT OF TIME] late.”

Using “for” is accurate when you are describing how long you did something.  For example, “I lived in Los Angeles for 3 years.”

The phrase “I will be late for + [AMOUNT OF TIME]” can be used, but it has an entirely different meaning.  For example, you can say, “I will be (coming home) late for the next three days because of training.”
